Dr. Borhan Uddin Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
I have been serving as a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Jahangirnagar University since 2008. I have built a solid foundation in different areas of Cell and Molecular Biology, and thus far, my results have been exemplary. I secured the first position in both undergraduate and graduate examinations at Jahangirnagar University. Additionally, I received a very good grade of 8.5 on the scale of 10 during my second master’s in Molecular life sciences at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. During this research-intense MSc study, I conducted my MSc thesis on Arabidopsis embryogenesis (36 ECTS, January to June 2013) under the supervision of Professor Dr. Dolf Weijers, Laboratory of Biochemistry. The creative environment of Professor Weijers’s lab changed my perspective on recent advancements in molecular biology and provided me with a great opportunity to learn advanced molecular biology and imaging techniques. To fulfill my MSc degree, I completed an internship under the supervision of Professor Dr. Jan Lohmann, Dept. of Stem cell Biology, Center for Organismal Studies (COS), Heidelberg University, Germany (36 ECTS, July 2013 to January 2014).
After completing my MSc study at Wageningen University, I pursued my doctoral study under the supervision of Professor Dr. Elmar Schiebel at the Center for Molecular Biology (ZMBH), Heidelberg University (August 2014 to October 2018). All my research efforts were directed towards deciphering the molecular mechanisms of human CDC14s functions by investigating the knockout cellular models (CRISPR-Cas9) through various imaging and proteomics approaches. I trained myself in various cell and molecular biology techniques such as mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, mass spectrometry, immunohistochemistry, genetic engineering, etc. I believe that the rigorous training in Professor Schiebel’s lab has transformed me into an independent researcher capable of solving scientific questions in a structured manner. I had very short stints of post-doctoral research in Professor Dr. David Stephens’s lab at the University of Bristol, UK (July 2019 to December 2019) and in Professor Dr. Irfan Lodhi’s lab at Washington University in St Louis, USA (August 2021 to October 2021).
My research interests include cancer biology, cell signaling, molecular genetics, and Genomics & Bioinformatics. Honestly speaking, I really love science. Even the simplest appearance of a gel band from PCR or Western Blot still makes me happy!
